What do we do?

The County Assessor's position is an elected position and requires that the Assessor own property in the county. It is also a requirement that the Assessor and her staff be certified Assessing Officers for the State of Wyoming. The County Assessor is required to value all the property, within the county, for tax purposes - each year. In Goshen County this means approximately 9,800 parcels are appraised each year, with a staff of five people. The County Assessor begins by analyzing all sales that occur, not to mention making over 500 ownership changes, 1200 address changes, and updating the ownership plat maps that are in-house. The Assessor is required by Wyoming Statute to physically check  and inspect all the property within the county once every four years. The Assessor also analyzes budget requests for millage. The Assessor is responsible for preparing the tax roll and delivering it to the County Treasurer. The County Assessor also tracts and signs any Veteran's Exemption requests and applies them annually to those that qualify. Annually we have approximately 285 taxpayers taking advantage of this exemption.
